Diesel Fuel Spilled on Akers Street after a Crash in Visalia

September 30, 2011- A crash involving a farming truck spilled diesel gas all over the road in Visalia, Friday morning. The accident occurred on Akers Street between Tulare Avenue and Cypress Avenue.

The driver of the farming truck lost control of his vehicle as he was headed south on Akers. The truck swerved, and hit a tree. The collision caused 40 gallons of diesel to spill into the southbound lanes of Akers St., near Cypress Ave.


Crews blocked off Akers so the spill could be cleaned up.

The cause of the crash is under investigation.

Jeep Crashes into GET Bus in Bakersfield

September 28, 2011- An elderly woman was hurt Wednesday afternoon when she crashed into a bus, in northeast Bakersfield.

The woman was driving a Jeep near the intersection of Monterey Street and Alta Vista Drive, when she collided with a Golden Empire Transit District bus.

Rescuers had to remove the roof of the Jeep to pull her to safety. She was hurt, but is reported to now be in good condition.

No one on the bus was hurt from the crash.

The cause of the accident is unknown, and under investigation.

Accident Between a Pickup and Tractor Leads to Fatality

September 28, 2011- A man died after a fiery accident between a truck and a tractor in west Fresno County Wednesday evening.

The crash occurred at about 5:40 PM, on south James Road and Central Avenue, near Tranquility.

The tractor, pulling an agricultural spraying machine was traveling on the right shoulder of James Road, near Denver Avenue. When an out of control Chevy pickup truck, driven by a 22-year-old Cantua Creek man, plowed into the back of it.


The impact from the crash slammed the truck into the side of a bridge, trapping the driver inside; then it caught on fire.

The tractor driver and other witnesses tried to put out the flames with water, but could not.

Officers said the Chevy’s driver may have been alive after the crash, but died in the fire.

The tractor driver was not seriously hurt.

Man Dies in a Crash near Kerman

September 24, 2011- A man died when his car skidded into oncoming traffic and collided with another car, southwest of Kerman, 30 minutes from Fresno.

Sergio Delgadillo of Kerman, was killed in the crash Saturday at about 11:50 PM, as he was driving on American Avenue, just west of Butte avenue.

He was driving his 2004 Cadillac CTS around a curve in the road, traveling east on American Ave. when his car crossed the center line and crashed into a westbound 1997 Geo Prism, driven by Maria Gomez of Tranquility.

Delgadillo was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Gomez received major injuries and was taken to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno.

Car Crash in Fresno Causes Fatal Injuries

September 17, 2011- A car crash caused fatal injuries in Fresno, Saturday night.

The accident happened on George Smith Road, south of Ruth Hill Road, at about 9:30 PM. The CHP reported that a 24-year-old woman lost control of her 2007 Chevrolet Cobalt. She swerved off the road and collided head-on with a tree. The Chevy then caught fire.

The driver was fatally wounded from the crash. No other vehicles or people were involved in the accident.

The Highway Patrol reported that alcohol was not a factor in the collision.

Fatal Crash Near Hilmar Leaves One Woman Dead

September 3, 2011- A woman was killed in a crash near Hilmar on Sunday, northwest of Fresno. The accident occurred at about 8 PM.

Cassy Mancebo of Turlock, was driving a 2003 Ford Focus east on American Avenue, west of Columbus Avenue. When her car traveled off the south roadway edge. Mancebo turned the Ford left, crossing the road.

The Ford then traveled off the north side of the road, where it crashed into a concrete rail and wooden fence. The car flipped over and came to a stop on its wheels in a cornfield.

Mancebo was thrown from the vehicle, a suffered fatal injuries.

It is reported that Mancebo was not wearing a seat belt and that alcohol appeared to be a factor in the crash.

Interstate 5 Crash Leads to a Double Fatality

September 24, 2011- A 22-year-old man and his 21-year-old female passenger died early Saturday morning, when they crashed head-on with another vehicle on Interstate 5, south of the Kern County, Kings County border.

The man, who was from Oceanside, was driving a 2000 Ford Explorer northbound on I-5, just after midnight, when he drove through the center median and into the southbound lanes of I-5.

The driver crashed head-on with Antonio Romero, of Los Angeles, who was driving a 2005 Mitsubishi truck. Both vehicles overturned and ended up stopping on the southbound shoulder.

Romero was taken to Kern Medical Center, in Bakersfield, by ambulance to be treated for moderate injuries.

The driver of the SUV and his passenger, who was from Vista, were pronounced dead at the scene. Their names have not been released at this time.

It is reported that all were wearing seatbelts. The crash is under investigation.

Truck Collides with School Bus in Patterson

September 23, 2011- A pickup truck collided with a school bus in Patterson, north of Fresno, on Friday at about 3:30 PM.

The crash happened at the intersection of Sperry Avenue and Baldwin Road. Christopher Cerda, of Patterson, was driving a 2002 Chevy truck east on Sperry approaching Baldwin Rd. The 2010 Chevrolet school bus driven by Venus Goodiel, of Salida, was driving south on Baldwin, towards Sperry Ave.

Reportedly Cerda failed to stop for a red light. As Cerda entered the intersection, the vehicles collided. The truck’s left front corner struck the school bus in the right front corner.

There were four passengers on the bus. Three students and one school aide, Coral Webb, of Modesto. Goodiel, Webb, and one of the students suffered minor injuries. The injured child was taken by ambulance to Emanuel Medical Center in Turlock.

Cerda was not injured. Alcohol or drugs were said not to be a factor in the accident.

Motorcyclist Seriously Injured in Collision West of Fresno

September 28, 2011- A motorcyclist suffered major injuries Wednesday morning in a crash with a car west of Highway 99, near Fresno.

The CHP reported that the rider was westbound on Shields Avenue at about 7 AM, driving towards Chateau Fresno Avenue. The driver of a BMW was headed south on Chateau Fresno.

The BMW stopped at the stop sign at the intersection of Shields and Chateau Fresno. She thought the road was clear, and pulled into the intersection. She collided with the motorcycle, throwing the rider.


The motorcycle rider was seriously injured and taken to the hospital. No other injuries have been reported.

Transit Bus and Big Rig Crash in Tulare

September 21, 2011- A crash involving a transit bus and a semi truck occurred Wednesday in Tulare.

The accident happened at 12:58 PM. The transit bus, which had 10 passengers was stopped at railroad tracks at South I Street and Rankin Avenue. When the big rig’s trailer hit the bus, while it was stopped.

Officers said both vehicles had minor damage, and no one reported any injuries.

Two Grape Harvesters Hit by a Car Near Sanger

September 24, 2011- A crash between two grape harvesters and a car ends in three hurt. The accident occurred on Saturday near Sanger, minutes from Fresno, at about 4:30 PM.

A harvester driver, Valentin Gomez Fraga, of Sanger, was northbound on Bethel Avenue, south of Adams Avenue.

The driver of a Toyota car, Albert Rivera, of Fresno, was southbound on Bethel Ave. when he drifted into the northbound lane and collided with the harvester. Fraga was thrown from the harvester and suffered major injuries. He had to be flown to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno.

After hitting the first harvester, the Toyota then slammed into a second harvester that was following the first. The second harvester was driven by Marco Avila, of Sanger.

Avila and a passenger in the Toyota, Harry Duenas of San Pedro, was taken to Community Medical with minor injuries.

The accident is under investigation.

Highway 166 Propane Truck Crash Ends in Fatality

September 26, 2011- An accident involving three vehicles ends in one fatality, on Highway 166 near Maricopa, southwest of Bakersfield.

Edward Leroy Jones, of Taft, was driving a blue Chevy truck on Hwy 166 after 9 AM. He pulled out of a turn-out at Cerro Noroeste Road. When he drove back onto the highway, he pulled into the path of an eastbound big rig truck.

The big rig, driven by Rick Peterson, was going 50 mph. Peterson had no time to stop, and crashed into the Chevrolet. The crash pushed both vehicles into the westbound lanes of the highway.

At that moment a propane truck, driven by Jose Orantes, was headed west on Hwy 166. Orantes was unable to avoid the two vehicles and hit them head-on. The propane truck was empty, but there were still enough fumes inside to immediately start a fire.



When the fire started both Peterson and Orantes jumped out of their big rigs and headed up a hill to try to get a safe distance from the flames. They both reported that they could not see Jones, the Chevy truck driver, because the truck was already covered in flames.

Kern County and Santa Barbara fire departments responded to the scene of the collision. After fire crews put out the fire they found Jones’ body inside his vehicle. A dog was also found dead in the truck.

Truck Crashes Into Amtrak Train in Madera

September 25, 2011- A Madera man sustained only minor injuries after his pickup collided with an Amtrak train Sunday morning. The crash occurred at about 7 AM, in the Madera area, north of Fresno.

Joe Irami, was driving a 2010 Dodge truck east on Avenue 15, west of Santa Fe Drive. He was approaching the Burlington Northern-Santa Fe tracks, and realized that the crossing arms were down. Irami slammed on his brakes, but the truck did not stop in time, and smashed into the train.

Irami was taken to Community Regional Medical Center, in Fresno to be treated for minor injuries.

The accident is under investigation.

Highway 41 Accident Between Semi Truck and a Van

September 19, 2011- A crash brought traffic to a standstill on Highway 41 near the Madera Ranchos area, just above Fresno, at approximately 6 AM Monday morning.

The accident happened on Hwy 41 near Avenue 12, when the driver of a big rig truck missed his turn. The semi tried to make a U-turn, when a blue van slammed into the truck.


A passenger in the van suffered major injuries, and was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center, in Fresno. The driver of the van was taken away by ambulance, with moderate injuries. The driver of the big rig was not injured.

Man Fatally Injured in Motorcycle Crash North of Visalia

September 23, 2011- A motorcyclist died after his bike collided with a truck, north of Visalia on Friday at 2:05 PM.

Joe Mello, of Woodlake, was riding his 2004 Harley Davidson south on Road 168, north of Avenue 308, when a 1992 Ford F-150 driven by Jose Orozco, of Visalia, pulled out from the walnut orchards along the side of the road.

Orozco told officers that he stopped before entering the road but didn’t see Mello coming. He pulled out in front of him, leading to the crash.


Mello was flown by helicopter to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno, where he died from his injuries. Orozco was not hurt in the accident.

Woman Dies in Crash After Hitting Tree

September 16, 2011- A woman was killed Friday morning, in Bakersfield when she crashed into a tree.

The Bakersfield driver, Ana Daysi Tario, was driving her vehicle on Casa Loma Drive, when she fell asleep just after 2 AM. She drifted off the road and collided with a tree. The impact of the accident also threw a backseat passenger through the windshield and into the tree.


Tario was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. The passenger suffered major injuries, and was taken to the hospital for treatment.

Two Truck Collision Ends in Fatality near Fresno

September 19, 2011- Two pickup trucks crash southeast of Fresno, causing the death of a Sanger man.

The driver of a white Toyota truck, Xay Mouonoutoua of Sanger, was driving west on Church Avenue at about 10:20 AM. He failed to yield the right of way at Temperance Avenue, and was broadsided by a Dodge Ram truck headed south.


Mouonoutoua died at the scene of the accident. The driver of the Dodge suffered minor injuries.

Truck Collides With Motorcycle in Fresno

September 16, 2011- A crash involving a motorcycle and a truck occurred Friday night, in Northwest Fresno.

The accident happened at the intersection of Herndon Avenue and Brawley Avenue, when the pickup truck and motorcycle collided. The truck dragged the motorcycle several dozen feet.


The driver of the motorcycle has been identified as a 30-year-old man. He was taken to the hospital, but his condition is unknown. No news on whether the other driver was injured.

Police are investigating this crash further. They are not sure yet who was at fault.

Motorcyclist Thrown from Bike near Elderwood

September 3, 2011- A motorcyclist sustained major injuries on Saturday after failing to maneuver a turn, and being thrown from his bike.

The driver of the motorcycle, Charles Boilfing of Hanford, was traveling north on Highway 245, when he lost control around a curve at Avenue 380, just north of Elderwood, 30 minutes from Visalia. Boilfing’s 2003 Buell motorcycle then skidded into the dirt and struck an olive tree, causing him to be thrown.

Officers stated that Boilfing’s speed was about 40 mph when his bike hit the tree. He suffered major injuries and was taken to a nearby hospital.

Southeast Fresno Collision Ends in One Dead

September 19, 2011- A fatal crash between two vehicles occurred Monday morning, southeast of Fresno. It happened at approximately 10:30 AM.

A 66-year-old man was driving a Toyota pickup truck on Church Avenue, when he stopped at a stop sign. The Toyota then pulled into the intersection of Church and Temperance Avenue. He ran into the path of a Dodge Ram going south on Temperance.


The driver of the Toyota was not wearing a seat belt, and died at the scene of the accident.

The driver of the Dodge received minor injuries.

Car Drives Into Cornfield South of Visalia

September 12, 2011- A car ends up in a cornfield south of Visalia, Monday morning.

The motorist was driving his vehicle on Avenue 272, west of Mooney Boulevard, before noon on Monday. Reportedly he drove his car on the shoulder of the road and then overcorrected, and ended up in a cornfield.


He received minor injuries, but refused an ambulance to be taken to the hospital. No one else was reported injured in the crash.

Oversized Tractor-Trailer Causes Crash on I-5

September 21, 2011- Two semi trucks crashed causing traffic to back up Wednesday afternoon on northbound Interstate 5. The accident occurred at about 2:20 PM, on I-5 north of the Fort Tejon on ramp, south of Bakersfield.

An oversize-load tractor-trailer, with a 130,000 pound compressor on the trailer, lost control and hit another big rig at a high rate of speed. The wide load trailer landed on the freeway shoulder.

The tractor section of the truck jack-knifed in the middle of the lanes, and ended up resting on the median safety wall. The truck then started a one acre grass fire in the median vegetation.


One driver received minor injuries and refused treatment. There were no other reported injuries.

Several lanes of the freeway were closed for a few hours, while cranes removed the big rigs. The CHP is investigating this collision.

Car Slams Into Jack in the Box Restaurant

September 20, 2011- A car crashed into a fast food restaurant in Southeast Fresno, Tuesday evening.

The driver of a red car, reportedly ran a red light, at the intersection of First Avenue and Tulare Avenue, and hit another car with a woman and baby inside. After the collision with the car, he plowed into the front door of a Jack in the Box.


The woman and baby were taken to the hospital to be treated for their injuries. No one in the restaurant was hurt.

The driver was suspected of DUI and taken into custody.

Three People Killed in Crash on State Route 14

September 1, 2011- Two people and an unborn baby were killed after a head-on crash Thursday night near Bakersfield.

The CHP said that at approximately 9:40 PM, Tanner Tom, from Artesia, was driving a Mitsubishi Eclipse north on State Route 14, north of State Route 178, when he drove into the southbound lane.

The Eclipse collided head-on with a Toyota Camry headed south, driven by Joel Yanez, of Mammoth Lakes. Yanez was critically injured.

Tom, and a female passenger, Debra Tom, also of Artesia, were killed. And an additional occupant of that vehicle, Angela Navejas, of Homeland, CA suffered major injuries. Navejas was pregnant and the baby did not survive.

A 5-year-old boy, also an occupant in the Mitsubishi, was critically injured and airlifted to Children’s Hospital in Fresno.

Officers said the investigation indicated that the Eclipse crossed over into the southbound lane possibly in an attempt to pass slower moving vehicles.

Everyone was wearing their seat belts, and alcohol was not a factor.

Laton Woman Dies While Crossing Highway 41

September 16, 2011- A woman was killed while trying to cross Highway 41, Friday night.

Carol Carleton, of Laton, was dropped off by her sister at about 9:15 PM, across the street from her home. She attempted to cross the highway and was struck by a car going south on Highway 41, near Mount Whitney Avenue.

She was pronounced dead at the scene of the accident. No one else was injured in the crash.

Pedestrian Struck by Car in Kerman Leads to Fatality

September 19, 2011- A 56-year-old man from Mendota was killed when he was hit by a car near Kerman, west of Fresno, Monday night.

The unidentified man was walking in the middle of the road, in the westbound lane of Belmont Avenue, east of Bishop Avenue, at about 9 PM. It is reported that he was wearing dark clothing.

The driver of a Honda, Angelica Pelaez, of Kerman, was unable to see him, as she drove west on Belmont Ave. She hit the pedestrian from behind. The man died at the scene of the accident.

After the crash the car caught fire and burned. Pelaez was able to get out of the car, and was uninjured.

Big Rig Carrying Tomatoes Struck by Amtrak Train

September 19, 2011- An Amtrak train carrying 163 passengers collided with a big rig near Ceres, in Stanislaus County, north of Fresno on Monday.

The driver of the semi truck, Rigoberto Jimenez of Delhi, was towing two trailers of tomatoes northbound, when the crash happened at Geer Road and Santa Fe Avenue, at about 1:35 PM.

The rear tomato trailer was blocking the Burlington Northern Santa Fe railroad tracks after the truck came to a stop. The train, piloted by Barbara Neu, of San Leandro, sped north toward the intersection at 80 mph. Neu saw the semi truck, slammed on the emergency brakes, and sounded the train’s air horns, but was unable to stop completely.


The train crashed into the rear trailer of the big rig, which then hit the right side of a Toyota Camry, driven by Maria Enes, of Hilmar, who was also stopped at the intersection.

It is reported that Jimenez did not see or hear the train coming. The railroad crossing bells, arms, and lights were functioning. At some point Jimenez figured out the train was about to hit him and was able to jump from the truck before the collision.


Initially nobody was injured from the accident, but later 20 passengers from the train complained of soreness and back and neck pain. They were taken by ambulance to Doctors Medical Center, and Memorial Medical Center, both in Modesto.

It is yet to be determined why Jimenez stopped on the tracks. It is possible that it was mechanical.

CHP Officer Rolls Car in Bakersfield

September 16, 2011- A Highway Patrol officer crashed his patrol car in Bakersfield, Friday morning.

The CHP officer rolled his car at approximately 3:40 AM on Taft Highway, east of South H Street, in the southern edge of Bakersfield. The officer was responding to a call for backup. Officials believe speed may have been a factor in the crash.


The officer suffered minor injuries.

Lexus Hits Big Rig on Highway 99 in Bakersfield

September 15, 2011- A crash in the heart of Bakersfield caused traffic to be shut down on Highway 99 for about an hour Thursday afternoon.

The accident happened at about 2:30 PM on the northbound Highway 99 lanes, just south of Highway 58. A red Lexus crashed into a semi truck. The cause of the crash is unknown.

One person in the Lexus was reportedly injured and taken to the hospital.

Wrong Way Driver Causes 3 Crashes on Hwy 41

September 15, 2011- A man in central Fresno caused three separate accidents by driving the wrong way on Highway 41, Thursday night.

The crashes started at about 10:30 PM when a black Ford Ranger was seen going northbound in the southbound lanes. This caused other drivers to swerve out of the way.

The first crash happened at the Van Ness exit. The second near the 180 interchange, and the third accident happened near the McKinley exit.


All three collisions were fairly minor, and only one person was taken to the hospital for injuries.

After the final crash the driver jumped out of his car and took off running. Officers eventually caught him near San Joaquin Memorial High School. He was arrested and now faces charges of hit-and-run, and DUI.

Motorcyclist Fatality in Madera County on Road 222

September 5, 2011- A motorcyclist was killed Monday in a head-on crash, in Madera County, north of Fresno.

Sergio Lopez, of Fresno, was southbound on a curve on Road 222, near Road 235, when he crossed the center line and struck an oncoming motor home traveling north. The accident occurred at 10:15 AM Monday.

Lopez was pronounce dead at the scene of the collision. The motor home driver, an unnamed man from Fresno, was not injured. His passenger, a Clovis woman, reported neck pain.

Pedestrian in Kettleman City Killed on Highway 41

September 3, 2011- A man was fatally injured when he was hit by a truck as he walked across Highway 41, in Kettleman City, an hour southwest of Visalia.

Mario Barriga, was walking west across Highway 41 at Milham Street, Saturday night, when he stopped in the middle of the road and was hit by a side mirror of a pickup truck headed north.

Barriga was taken to Community Regional Medical Center, in Fresno. He died Monday from the injuries he sustained in the accident.

Motorcyclist Killed Near Caruthers

September 15, 2011- A motorcyclist was killed in a crash with a car Thursday morning at about 5:15 AM, near Caruthers, 20 minutes from Fresno.

Eddie Means, of Madera, was riding his motorcycle through the intersection of Conejo Avenue and Walnut Avenue, when a car pulled out in front of him. Means was not able to stop in time and slammed into the side of the car.


Means died at the scene of the accident. The occupants of the other vehicle were not injured.

Double Fatality on Highway 46

September 2, 2011- a crash Friday night left two teenagers from Hanford dead, and four others with serious injuries. The accident occurred at about 9 PM.

The crash happened along Highway 46, east of Cholame in San Luis Obispo County, southwest of Visalia. A 1998 Toyota Camry carrying six teens, was traveling eastbound on Highway 46. The driver, April Canseco of Stratford, lost control of the Camry when it blew a rear tire and hit the center divider, just west of Kecks Road. The blown tire caused the car to roll several times.


Two of the passengers, Itzyana Chaidez and Richard Hernandez, were thrown from the car during the crash and were pronounced dead at the scene. The other teens; Canseco, Raul Rodriguez of Corcoran, Gilbert Navarro of Corcoran, and a 17 year old girl, were taken to Kern Medical Center with serious injuries.

CHP reported that there were not enough seat belts in the Toyota for all the occupants. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

City Bus Hits Parked Vehicle

September 6, 2011- A Visalia city bus hit a parked Toyota Tacoma Tuesday morning. The accident happened as the bus was turning south from Main Street onto Conyer Street. The bus driver was reported to be paying attention to the northbound traffic on Conyer St. while turning, and did not see the parked truck. No one was injured from the crash.

Collision at Akers Street and Walnut Ave in Visalia

September 7, 2011- Two car collision causes two people to be injured Wednesday morning in Visalia, at about 8:30 AM.

Reportedly Patricia Ware, was driving a Chrysler PT Cruiser south on Akers Street, when a Honda Odyssey, driven by Jose Miranda crashed into her, after he ran a red light while going westbound on Walnut Avenue.

Ware’s car rolled onto its side and came to a stop back on its tires at the southwest corner of the Akers/Walnut intersection. The bottom of her car hit the fire hydrant while it rolled on its side.

Both Ware and Miranda were injured from the accident and taken to Kaweah Delta Medical Center.

Skateboarder Struck by Two Vehicles in Visalia

September 14, 2011- A skateboarder suffered injuries Wednesday night after he was hit by two vehicles in Visalia.

Nick Johnson, was skateboarding east on W. Walnut Avenue, at about 10:30 PM Wednesday. Johnson crossed S. Divisadero St., and was struck by a Ford truck that was turning south onto Divisadero. The truck was driven by Douglas Oneal, of Visalia.

As Johnson lay on the ground, a Ford Mustang, driven by Sharon Stokes, also of Visalia, hit him again.

Johnson received injuries to the head, face, and arms. He was taken to Kaweah Delta Medical Center to be treated for his injuries. It is reported that he is in stable condition.

Accident on Highway 198 in Three Rivers

September 6, 2011- Roberto Vasquez, of Tulare, suffered major injuries Tuesday evening when the truck he was driving crashed into an embankment on Highway 198. The crash occurred five miles south of Mineral King Road in Three Rivers, 30 minutes from Visalia.

It is reported that Vasquez said his Ford truck's brakes failed. He was pulling a trailer at the time of the accident. The crash was reported at 9:32 that evening.

After the crash, Vasquez was transported to Kaweah Delta Medical Center. He received major injuries, but is now reported as being in good condition.

Update: Accident near Lindsay Results in Three Injured

September 10, 2011- An update on the two vehicle crash that happened on Road 188, near Lindsay, Saturday evening. The people involved in the accident have been identified.

At about 6:50 PM, Jorge Banuelos, of Tulare, was driving his 1995 Nissan Hardbody north on Road 188. While Martin Gutierrez of Porterville, was driving his 1999 Chevy S-10 eastbound on Avenue 208.

Gutierrez had the right of way, with no stop sign on Avenue 208. Banuelos reportedly failed to stop at the posted stop sign on Road 188 and collided with the right side of the Nissan.

Banuelos, Gutierrez, and Gutierrez’s passenger, Blanca Gutierrez were all injured from the accident.

The collision remains under investigation.

SUV Rolls Over in Crash on Highway 198

September 12, 2011- a one vehicle accident occurred at about 10:20 AM Monday, on westbound Highway 198 in Visalia.

The crash happened on Hwy 198, west of Demaree Street, when a GMC Yukon SUV rolled over after loosing control.


The driver was taken to Kaweah Delta Medical Center with minor injuries.

Motorcyclist Suffers Major Injuries in Three Vehicle Crash

September 7, 2011- A three vehicle collision caused a Tulare man to suffer major injuries Wednesday morning, while riding his motorcycle on Road 156 east of Visalia.

Richard Montgomery, was riding his 1989 Harley Davidson south on Road 156, south of Avenue 288, when he was involved in the crash. The accident was reported at 8:25 AM.

Also involved in the crash were Florencia Madrigal, of Rockford Ill., who was driving a 2008 Nissan Frontier. And Rochelle Williams, of Visalia, who was driving a 2003 Mercury Sable.

Both the drivers of the cars were going northbound on Road 156. It is reported that they did not suffer any injuries.

Montgomery suffered a compound fracture to his right leg. He was taken by ambulance to Kaweah Delta Medical Center in Visalia. He was wearing a helmet at the time of the accident.

Accident near Lindsay Results in Three People Injured

September 10, 2011- A 36-year-old man from Tulare received major injuries Saturday evening in an accident near Lindsay, 20 minutes from Visalia.

The CHP reported that the Tulare man was driving a 1990’s Nissan north on Road 188 at about 6:50 PM and ran a stop sign at the intersection at Avenue 208. His car was broadsided by a 1993 Chevrolet pickup truck, driven by a man from Porterville. The Porterville man had the right of way.

The man driving the Nissan was taken to Community Regional Medical Center, in Fresno, with major injuries. The Porterville driver and his passenger suffered minor injuries from the crash, and were taken to Kaweah Delta Medical Center in Visalia.

Porterville Man Hits Horse on Highway 99

September 9, 2011- A Porterville man, Luis Gonzalez, collided with a horse on southbound Highway 99, Friday morning, near Pixley.

Gonzalez, was driving a 2003 Ford Focus south on Hwy 99, north of Avenue 72, when he hit an unsecured adult horse standing in the lane. His vehicle was traveling in the fast lane at about 65 to 70 mph when the crash occurred.

The collision removed the entire roof off the Focus. The car went about 200 feet down the freeway and then off the road into a fence on the west side.


Gonzalez sustained major head injuries, and had to be airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center, in Fresno.

He was the only occupant in the car. It is reported that he was wearing his seat belt.

Crash on Highway 126 Kills Bakersfield Teenager

September 11, 2011- This morning CHP have identified a Bakersfield teenager that was killed Sunday night when the car she was riding in drifted into the opposite lane and struck an oncoming truck, on Highway 126 in Ventura County.

The girl was Maria Puentes, 15 years-old, of Bakersfield. She was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred at 7:05 PM, east of Toland Road, between the cities of Santa Paula and Fillmore. The drivers of both vehicles suffered moderate injuries.

A 17-year-old boy, also from Bakersfield, was driving east on Hwy 126, with Puentes in the right front passenger seat when the vehicle drifted into westbound lanes and into the path of an oncoming truck. The car collided almost head-on. The truck was driven by Rocky Edwards, of Exeter CA, which is just miles from Visalia.


The crash caused the truck to spin out of control into the eastbound lanes. The car spun in the westbound lane, and debris struck an eastbound vehicle driven by Jorge Arroyo, of Piru. Arroyo was reported as being uninjured.

The Bakersfield boy and Rocky Edwards were taken to Ventura County Medical Center for treatment.

The cause of the collision is under investigation.

Update to Pile Up on Highway 41 and I-5

September 1, 2011- An update to the eight car crash that happened last Thursday on Highway 41, in the Kettleman City area.

The driver of the semi truck, was Jonathan Moren, of Madera. The accident occurred when Moren reportedly failed to stop for stopped traffic ahead of him, from road construction to State Route 41. Moren was traveling at 55 mph, when he locked up the brakes and swerved to avoid a collision, causing his vehicle to hit the back of a 2000 Nissan Sentra driven by Erica Kloth, of Yreka.

Craig Brown, of Visalia, was in a 2000 Ford F-250, when Moren’s Freightliner, struck his truck from behind, causing major damage. Brown’s Ford then struck a 2007 Toyota Highlander, causing moderate damage to that vehicle.


Brown had no injuries, and Kloth was listed as having moderate injuries.

Jonathan Gardner, of Santa Barbara, was listed as having minor injuries. The names of the others involved in the collision have not been reported at this time.

Fatality Near Porterville after Woman is Struck by Two Vehicles

September 5, 2011- A Porterville woman died Monday night after being struck by two vehicles as she walked across the road, near Porterville, about 30 minutes from Visalia. The accident happened at about 9:20 PM, on Orange Belt Drive.

Sharon Nicholson, was standing within the northbound lane of Orange Belt Drive, north of Avenue 182, when a 2006 Dodge Durango, driven by Erica Sanchez of Porterville, traveling north hit her at about 50 mph.

Sanchez, tried to avoid the crash by slamming on her brakes and turning to the left, but was unable to avoid hitting Nicholson. The collision sent Nicholson in a northerly direction.

Sanchez parked her Dodge on the right shoulder, and as she got out a 1996 Honda Civic going 55 mph on Orange Belt Drive struck Nicholson.

The driver of the Civic, David Thavyvanh, also of Porterville, attempted to avoid Nicholson by swerving left but was unable to. Nicholson died at the scene of the crash.

It is unclear why Nicholson was in the road. The accident is under investigation.

Two Vehicle Crash in Visalia Cause SUV to Flip Over

September 2, 2011- An SUV flipped over and landed back on its wheels after being hit by another vehicle Friday, in Visalia. The accident happened at about 6 PM.

A Chevrolet Trailblazer going south on Mooney Boulevard ran a stop light at Noble Avenue and was hit by a Chevrolet Cobalt that was driving east on Noble.

A witness to the crash said that the Trailblazer flipped in the air after the impact and landed amid the plants in the center median on the south side of the intersection. The Cobalt spun and came to a stop in the intersection.

The woman driving the Cobalt declined to be taken to the hospital. A four year old boy in the Trailblazer complained of stomach pains and was taken to Kaweah Delta Medical Center, by ambulance. The woman who was driving the Trailblazer didn’t appear to have serious injuries, and she accompanied the boy in the ambulance.

Update: Intoxicated Driver Named in Fatal I-5 Collision

August 30, 2011- The intoxicated man who crashed into the Ford Explorer, and killed Shirley Ann Snyder of Moreno Valley, in Tuesday’s fatal crash on I-5 has been identified as 49 year old Wayne Boatwright.

He was driving a 2001 Volkswagen Passat, which he drove the wrong way on I-5 before colliding with the Ford Explorer head on.

The other people involved and hurt in the accident were Charles Snyder, the driver of the Ford, and passengers April Murphy and Donnell Watts.

The CHP announced on Tuesday that they intend to arrest Boatwright once he is released from the hospital.

Bakersfield Bus Hit by Ford Mustang

September 1, 2011- A Bakersfield school bus, on its way to Independence High School, was hit by a Ford Mustang, Thursday morning.

The bus was about to make a left hand turn at the intersection of Summer Springs Drive, and Harris Road. The driver of the Mustang was headed east on Harris Rd., but didn’t stop at the stop sign. When the driver realized the bus was in front of him, he slammed on the brakes but not in time.

The Mustang hit the left side of the bus. Both vehicles' drivers and the six teenagers that were on the bus were not injured.


Police officials said the cause of the crash is under investigation.

School Bus in Fresno Hit by Car Pursued by the Police

August 31, 2011- A school bus carrying 68 kids was hit by a driver who ran a stop sign, in Fresno, as he was being pursued by the CHP. The accident happened near Jensen Avenue and Pullman Avenue, in southeast Fresno.

The children were on their way home from Southeast Elementary school when the crash happened. The car that ran the stop sign, hit the front end of the bus.

The kids had to take the emergency exit, because the impact caused the normal exit to buckle. Neither the kids nor the bus driver were hurt in the accident. Another bus was called to take the children home.

The driver of the car, tried to flee the scene of the collision, but was quickly captured. He was arrested for misdemeanor hit-and-run, DUI, and driving without a valid driver’s license.

Eight Vehicle Pile Up on Highway 41 and I-5

September 1, 2011- An eight car pile up occurred just before 2 PM Thursday, on Highway 41 and Interstate 5, just outside Kettleman City an hour from Visalia. The pile up caused Highway 41 to shut down in both directions for several hours.

The CHP have reported that the accident involved a semi truck and seven other vehicles. Traffic was at a standstill before the crash happened, due to construction. The big rig slammed on his brakes, which then caused a chain reaction.

Witnesses said the semi truck driver swerved to the left, clipped one car, in a series of cars, and then ended up piling up all the cars, and went into the opposite lane. At that point the big rig lost control, swerved back, and hit another truck. That truck got propelled into an SUV.


Four people were reported as injured, and were taken to the hospital. With one of them being airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center, in Fresno.

Three Car Crash in Visalia on Noble Avenue

September 1, 2011- A crash involving three cars, in Visalia, send two people to the hospital, on Thursday. The accident happened on Noble Avenue at Church Street.

The collision occurred when one vehicle slowed in the right lane on Noble Ave. Causing the two cars behind to rear-end the first car, and each other. Police are investigating whether the second car hit the first initially, or if it was pushed into the first by the impact of the third vehicle.


Two people were sent to Kaweah Delta Medical Center with injuries. The drivers in the other two cars refused medical treatment.

Fatality on Southbound I-5 Near Coalinga

September 2, 2011- A crash on southbound Interstate 5, involving a solo vehicle occurred Friday morning, near Coalinga, an hour from Visalia. The accident claimed the life of one person.

The unidentified victim was pinned underneath a blue Ford Taurus, on southbound I-5, at 6:06 AM, just north of El Dorado Avenue.

Witnesses reported that prior to the accident, they saw the Taurus swerving from side to side. The CHP said the victim probably fell asleep at the wheel.

Visalia Motorcyclist Receives Major Injuries in Collision with Car

August 30, 2011- Motorcyclist, Anthony Galindo, of Visalia was traveling east on Caldwell Avenue, in Visalia, Tuesday night when he suffered major injuries from a collision with a car.

Galindo, was eastbound on Caldwell Ave., on a Suzuki motorcycle, just before 9 PM, when he tried to make a U-turn west of Ben Maddox Way, and crashed into a Ford Escort that was driven by Gloria Cabrera, of Farmersville.

Galindo suffered head trauma and leg injuries, and was taken to Kaweah Delta Medical Center. He was transferred later to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno.

No word on whether there were any other injuries as a result of the accident.

Accident at Chestnut Ave. in Selma Kills One Passenger

August 27, 2011- Anna Gonzalez, of Selma, died at the scene of an accident that happened at Chestnut Avenue and Floral Avenue, near Selma, which is 10 minutes from Fresno. One person was arrested in connection to the crash.

Tommy Hutchenson, the driver that was arrested, was driving west on Floral Ave. at about 55 mph, when he failed to stop at the intersection of Floral and Chestnut, at about 8:45 PM. Hutchenson, of Fresno, was driving a 2007 Dodge, which collided with a 2000 Mercury, that was driving north on Chestnut Ave. by Christina Gonzalez, of Selma.

Anna Gonzalez was a passenger in Christina’s car. She was pronounced dead at the scene of the crash. Christina had major injuries and was medi-flighted to Community Regional Medical Center, in Fresno. A male passenger in the car, Leandro Gonzalez, had major injuries and was taken by ambulance to Community Regional.

Hutchenson had minor injuries, and a passenger in his vehicle, Cody Beckering, of Fresno, was not hurt.

Hutchenson was arrested on suspicion of vehicular manslaughter.

Pontiac Rear-ends Big Rig on Road 124

September 1, 2011- A Pontiac Grand Prix was involved in a crash on Road 124 north of Avenue 328, near Visalia, on Thursday. John Penner, of Visalia, the driver of the Pontiac, was arrested on suspicion of DUI after his car crashed into the back of a semi truck carrying a tractor. Both vehicles were driving south on Road 124, when the accident happened.

Big Rig Hit and Run Kills Three People Outside Mendota

September 2, 2011- A crash involving a big rig and an SUV causes three deaths on Friday morning west of Mendota, in Fresno County.

The driver of the semi truck was traveling east of Belmont Avenue where it and a Chevrolet Suburban carrying eight farm workers sideswiped each other, near Washoe Avenue, shortly before 6 AM. The big rig did not stop after the collision with the Chevy.

After striking the semi, the Chevy came to rest on the south side of Belmont about 175 feet from the road, in a pistachio orchard.



The Chevy’s driver and two passengers died from the impact. The five other occupants suffered major to minor injuries. All eight people in the SUV are from Mendota.

The big rig vehicle has been described as carrying a load of grapes in green bins. The CHP are investigating the wreck to find out which vehicle crossed the yellow road divide.

Former Supervisor Candidate in Critical Condition from Accident

August 28, 2011- Joe Alberta, of Coarsegold, a former candidate for the Madera County Board of Supervisors, was in critical condition Sunday after being thrown from his vehicle, during an early morning crash. The accident occurred at about 2:30 AM.

Alberta was driving a 2004 Honda west on Road 417, east of Big Sandy Drive near Coarsegold, which is northeast of Fresno. He turned his car and crossed the solid double-yellow line, when an eastbound 2009 Ford Mustang collided with the right side of the Honda. Alberta was ejected through the right front window.

The driver of the Mustang, Brandon Jeroue, of Fresno, and a passenger, Michele Jackson, of Coarsegold, were taken to Saint Agnes Medical Center with moderate injuries.

Alberta was medi-flighted to Community Regional Medical Center, in Fresno with a head injury. It is reported that he is in critical but stable condition with a head injury.

Update: Fatality Near Lemoore on Highway 41

August 26, 2011- A update to the fatality that occurred near Lemoore on Highway 41. The woman killed was identified as Lora Jean Williams of Bakersfield.

Investigators are still looking into why the collision, between the two trucks, happened early Friday, near Glendale Avenue.

Reports have suggested that Williams may have slowed to a stop in the slow lane of the highway, which explains the large fire that witnesses said they saw. The fire engulfed both vehicles and burned the grass on the shoulder of the road nearby.

The coroner reported that Williams died within seconds of the crash, from smoke and hot gas inhalation.

Update: Teenager Killed In Rollover Accident in Fresno

August 30, 2011- The teenager that was killed, on Tuesday, in the rollover crash in Fresno has been identified as Hunter Wright.

New information about the accident has come to light. Wright was not wearing his seat belt when the crash occurred. The three passengers that were riding in the 2004 Mazda, were wearing their seat belts. They suffered minor injuries, and were releases from Community Regional Medical Center on Tuesday.

Driver Hits Power Pole and is Stuck in Car Over an Hour

August 26, 2011- A man crashed into a power pole northeast of Pixley, about 35 minutes from Visalia, on Friday evening. The driver was trapped in his car, for over an hour, because of downed electrical lines, until the electricity could be turned off.

The crash was reported at 6:51 PM, to the Highway Patrol. The CHP has reported that the driver of a Hyundai sedan slammed into a power pole along Avenue 88, east of Road 140. He hit the pole with enough force to shear the pole in two.

The vehicle came to a stop at the edge of a corn field, with the live power lines on the ground around it. Reportedly the driver was unconscious when emergency personnel first arrived, but then regained consciousness a little while later.

Officers said that the driver was the only person involved in the accident. He was not endangered by the power lines, but firefighters couldn’t get near the car, until the power lines were turned off, due to the threat of electrocution.

The driver and fire crew had to wait about an hour before a utility crew arrived and cut power to the lines. After that the man, in the car, was airlifted to Community Regional Medical Center in Fresno, with moderate injuries.
